History Monumental City Ancient Fife & Drum Corps is located in Baltimore, Maryland. Today, we carry on the proud traditions of the original corps which was founded in 1950 and named after Baltimore, "The Monumental City." Gus Malstrom, a veteran of the original group and our current director, has been instrumental in making us an active, recognizable member of the Baltimore Community. More information about Baltimore's unique designation can be found at John Quincy Adams and "The Monumental City", by Christopher T. George. Each year, Monumental City performs at numerous public events including Independence Day celebrations, St. Patrick's Day parades, and colonial festivals in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland. In 2000, we were honored to participate in the American Presidency program at Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. To foster and perpetuate the traditions of Ancient Fifing and Drumming, Monumental City hosts a mini-jam and jollification annually in October. At this and other similar events during the year, we join fifers and drummers from around the United States and Europe in honoring our forefathers and the Spirit of America. Anyone interested in joining the corps, or wishing more information, can contact us at director@monumentalcity.com. Monumental City is a member of the Company
of Fifers and Drummers, located in Ivoryton, Connecticut and now proudly
counts five life members of the Company of Fifers and Drummers within
our membership. |
